The Way of the Birds Animation
The third incarnation of the story of the Eastern Curlew, is a short animated film, THE WAY OF THE BIRDS. The first telling of the story of the migratory birds was in WADERBIRDS – ODYSSEY OF THE WETLANDS. This was a community theatre production I directed that followed the northern migration of the Curlew from Aoteroa/New Zealand, across Australia and up to Kushiro in the north of Japan.
The book, THE WAY OF THE BIRDS, took shape after the WADERBIRDS tour across the world.
The idea of animating the book was picked up by film producer, Fiona Eagger of Twenty/20 Pty Ltd, who engaged a multi-award winning animator, Sarah Watt, to direct the film.
Sarah’s animations are known for their painterly style, sensitive observations and fine sense of storytelling.
